I Ching Planner 2.0

Application Notes, Chaos Theory, by Ralph Abraham

The Planner opens in Flash Player with an initial tableau of 49 yarrow stalks. The positions of the stalks in the heap are determined by two trajectories of the logistic function, the most studied chaotic dynamical system in the whole of chaos theory,
f(x) = Rx(1-x)
where x is a real number between zero and one, and the chaos parameter R is set to 3.96 for highly chaotic behavior.

With each of six clicks within the heap, one of four lines: changing yin, fixed yin, fixed yang, changing yang is selected by an algorithm that preserves exactly the probabilities of the traditional yarrow stalk oracle. (See www.yarrow.org for additional information on the oracle.)

The prior hexagram on the left is the result before the changing lines (shown in red) are changed. The posterior hexagram on the right is the result after the changes.

The seventh click brings forth the reading from our own rendering of the I Ching text, for the prior hexagram, each of the changing lines, and the posterior hexagram. Also, an estimate of the time frame, based on the "Apogee Algorithm", is shown, in hours and days.
